Instructor Credentials

The requirements for becoming a certified Bradley Method® instructor are rigorous.

  • Teachers either must have given birth naturally using the Bradley Method, or must have attended an entire series and at least one birth.

  • Teachers must attend an intensive 4-day teacher training workshop, which includes pre- and post-tests.

  • Surrounding the teacher training is an academic study program. This includes reading over a dozen specific books on pregnancy, labor and birth, writing extensive reviews of each book, interviewing local hospitals, attending La Leche League meetings, and observing another teacher's class.

  • Once all the academic work is turned in and approved, teachers-in-training must teach a "provisional class series" and turn in outlines of each class.

  • Following the provisional series, teachers take an intensive final exam before becoming fully affiliated with the American Academy of Husband-Coached Childbirth.

  • To keep our affiliation, we must continue to study, reading and outlining new books and medical information every year.
